Evaluation of Corporate Social Responsibility Services in Tanzania

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a business model that provides companies with social accountability to their stakeholders and the public, in addition to maximizing profits. It also aims to promote the brand and improve the company’s image within the community. As a result, both small and large enterprises conduct various CSR activities in Tanzania. These activities include, but are not limited to, improving school and hospital infrastructure, providing educational materials, and empowering youth groups.

Although these initiatives contribute to a better society, the sustainability of such activities within local communities remains uncertain. For example, it is still unclear whether there are sufficient resources to operate the schools and hospitals built as CSR initiatives, or whether students continue their education beyond secondary school. Hence, it is imperative to evaluate the sustainability of CSR activities to ensure that support is aligned with societal needs.

This project evaluates the CSR support offered in Tanzania from 2013 to 2023. It explores the types of CSR initiatives implemented, the regions supported, and the investment in activities. Furthermore, the project examines community involvement to assess whether the service provided aligns with local needs before implementation.

The survey’s target groups are corporate companies that have practiced CSR as part of their business strategy since 2013. The results of this study will provide a baseline for evaluating the sustainability of investments made to the targeted beneficiaries. Ultimately, the findings will enhance understanding of why and where companies choose to invest as part of their responsible business practices or CSR.
