The third session of the IBB directed focus on the important aspects of human resources management, an area that oversees the most vital part of the machinery of any organization.
Ms.Muro drew attention to three outstanding questions that must always occupy the mind of every manager or senior executive, and these are
How can a company build an effective employee team?
How does the company keep the team engaged?
How can a company attract and retain talent?
It’s a rule of thumb to comprehend that employees are a company’s competitive advantage and for This reason, all efforts must be channeled into devising ways of engaging their hearts and minds. This will enlist their emotional commitment and is an important basis for retention.
There are upheavals, however, and one of the most frequent is the fact that leaders or managers are often too stretched to keep their teams connected and to the values of the organization.
The most common reason for this reality is short-term goals and the drive for rapid profits which combine with other shortcomings to drastically reduce room for coaching and mentoring.
However, it must never be forgotten that leaders also need to develop and nurture skills that foster workplace excellence. Putting these skills into practice will reinforce a culture of trust between the organizational hierarchies and ultimately enhance productivity while retaining talent.
Connecting with your employees.
Equally vital, the organization’s vision must be communicated to all levels and not be treated as the preserve of management alone. Every time the entire workforce has a grasp of the organization’s vision it becomes easier to accomplish its objectives while following the path set forth by its values.
Systematically, management must also foster the incubation of ideas from the bottom of the employee rung to the top of the organization.
Often overlooked, ordinary employees are a treasure trove of some of the finest concepts because they are daily more exposed to the external environment firsthand than management.
Listening to them can mean a world of difference, in perceptions and how these ideas can be accommodated by the management.
